June 26th - Day 14
Today we reached the 2 week mark of our trip! We started the day in Lehigh, IA and then drove north to Woodbury, MN, just outside of the Twin Cities, where Becca’s aunt and uncle live.
While our kids may not realize the significance of this last week, I hope that one day they will look back on this week and cherish it. Our kids had the opportunity to spend nearly the entire week with both of their living great grandparents; my Grandmother Joy and Becca’s Grandfather Phil. Many kids do not have a single great grandparent living, let alone two.
A few highlights of the day:
Everyone enjoyed a relatively lazy morning with Becca’s grandfather and his wife Sandra, along with Becca’s parents who were also visiting. Great grandfather Phil made his famous waffles, drove the kids around the farm on a a side by side, and Becca and Aubrey enjoyed a long walk with Becca’s mom.
We were grateful that we were able to stream our church service from our home church in Portland, while we were driving between Iowa and Minnesota.
Up until today, both Ilena and Obadiah struggled to take naps in the RV and it had been a battle to get them to do so. However, they both fell asleep more easily today as we drove. Everyone is certainly getting more used to RV life (it just took a couple of weeks)!
Elias was excited to hear stories from family members about a couple different extended family members who were professional athletes or should have been. One family member is an extended cousin and was a professional football player and the other family member was Elias’ great great grandfather who was offered a contract to play baseball for the Philadelphia Athletics but turned it down because his parents did not think it was a great way to make a living at that time.
