July 3rd - Day 21

Today marked the end of the third week of our summer adventure. Sometimes, it doesn’t feel like the trip has been near that long. On the other had, we can barely remember the morning we left home as that now seems like an eternity ago now.

Being with the Mucci’s in Harrisburg for a few days, we spent today much like an average summer Sunday. While the day was still full, it was certainly a different fullness than other days of our trip.

Here are a few highlights from our day:

  • We started the day by attending church at Bethany Church of the Nazarene where Nick is an associate pastor. One of things that we are looking forward to doing on this trip is giving our kids different church experiences as we visit different parts of the country. This will allow them to see different ways that people worship. While this church is familiar to us as we’ve visited before, it is always special to worship with close friends.

  • The afternoon was filled with how a summer Sunday afternoon should be: naps, a few projects/errands, and spending several hours at a community pool with friends. While out of town for the summer, our kids are missing out on swimming at the neighborhood pool. They always enjoy when the can get in the water, especially with good friends.

  • Since we are traveling with our kids all summer, Becca and I did not expect to get any date nights. Tonight was an exception. We left the Snyder and Mucci (“Snycci”) kids home with pizza so we could go on a double date with Nick and Mandy. We enjoyed dinner at Millworks in downtown Harrisburg. It was certainly enjoyable to have a great meal, further catch up on life with great friends, and not have to worry about kids for a few hours (thanks to Aubrey and Mia holding down the fort).

  • We ended the day by watching the fireworks in the nearby town of Lingleston (I’m not sure why they were doing fireworks on the 3rd of July, but I’m sure they had a good reason). Not wanting to take multiple cars, both families piled into the RV for the short drive over there. Prior to last year, our kids had never seen fireworks on the Fourth of July, so two years in a row is a pretty big deal.
