July 4th - Day 22

Happy July 4th! Today we started in on the 4th week of our adventure. We have been in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for the last few days, but will be leaving here in the morning for the next leg of our journey. It has been a great time for all as we have been able to catch up and spend some quality time with some of our dearest friends.

A few highlights from the day:

  • Today was a day where we had time to catch up on a handful of things - deep clean the inside of the RV, restock groceries, get a hair cut, etc. I have been disappointed that I was going to have to pay for a hair cut after going 15 years without paying for one. However, I was unable to find a barber shop that was open today due to the holiday. So what did I do? I went to Target and bought new clippers. Yes, I paid for the clippers, but I avoided paying for a haircut again. Maybe I can go another 15 years?

  • After a lazy morning and a big breakfast, Becca & Mandy enjoyed a 10 mile bike ride!

  • Mandy then took all of the kids to a nearby creek to play/wade in it. This is surely not something we are able to do in Portland, but all of the kids loved it; splashing in the cool water, catching bugs, balancing on rocks, and racing containers down the stream.

  • Since we are living in a RV this summer, the amount of baking I am able to do is fairly limited. Considering that I usually bake numerous times a week, we are having to adjust. Becca did take the opportunity to volunteer me to make pies for the “cookout” this evening (apparently, on the west coast we call them BBQs, but in Pennsylvania they call them cookouts). I made strawberry rhubarb and lemon meringue pies.

  • We spent the evening enjoying a cookout in the Mucci’s backyard with a couple other families, followed by some fireworks in the street. Good food and good company. A great way to celebrate the 4th of July and an end to our stay with the Mucci’s!
