July 18 - Day 36
As mentioned a couple of days ago, we decided to stay an additional day in the Dallas area with the Brames due to the heat wave currently in Texas. We felt that it was better to find inside activities with the Brames than to sit in our air conditioned RV in Palo Duro Canyon as it would have been too hot to do anything else. While it still topped 108 degrees today in Dallas, we found ways to keep cool and active.
A few highlights/significant moments from the day:
I once again took the opportunity to make our hosts cinnamon rolls for breakfast. Outside of baking them in the RV, I’ve become pretty good at prepping everything else in there. I think both families enjoyed starting the day in this yummy way.
Following breakfast, we drove to downtown Dallas where we went to the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. Thankfully the Brames own two vans, allowing us to transport our families and leave the RV parked at their home. The museum was not only educational and fun for everyone, but it was also well air conditioned. Plus, we got to see dinosaur fossils!
For those who have spent much time with me, you know that 1) I enjoy ice cream, and 2) I enjoy buying ice cream for most any kid. This is why I am known as the “Ice Cream Uncle”. Since I still needed to pay all of the kids in ice cream for their efforts washing the RV yesterday, we wrapped up the day with a trip to Dairy Queen for Blizzards. This was a great ending to a HOT day and our last evening with the Brames (who had not been to Dairy Queen before).
We said our goodbyes to Rickey this evening as he goes to work at 4am before any of us will be up. So very thankful for his and Kim’s generosity in hosting our family, and for the meals, showers, laundry and memories made in their home. Their friendship is truly a blessing!
