July 17 - Day 35
Today was hot! It reached 105 degrees in the Dallas area today and is expected to be even hotter tomorrow. Just our luck, the news is currently saying that this may be the hottest week in Texas all summer long. Fortunately, we were able to be in air conditioned spaces or find other ways to stay cool.
A few highlights from the day:
As with other Sundays on this trip, we are trying to give our kids different church experiences that they wouldn’t have otherwise. Today we attended church with the Brame family at their home church, Dallas Christian Fellowship Church. We are thankful we could attend with them.
Following church, we had the opportunity to meet up other long time family friends; the Cox family. We met the Cox family in Portland over 14 years ago and before either of us had children. We now have 4 kids and they have 5. It is always enjoyable when you can connect with friends where you have been there for each other during some of life’s greatest and darkest moments. We’ll just say this was not a quick lunch…
Looking for ways to keep the kids cool this afternoon, yet be outside, I offered to pay our kids and the Brame kids in ice cream if they washed our RV and their vans. All 13 kids jumped right in and started to work. Although their work still required to be touched up, it was great to see all of them work together so well and have fun while doing it. Now I need to find a good ice cream stop for everyone tomorrow.
Today also marked the one-month mark since I last wore shoes as I have exclusively worn Birkenstocks for the last month. For anyone who knows me, they know I where Birkenstocks more often than not. However, I am pretty sure I have not gone this long without wearing shoes. We’ll see how many more days I can go without wearing shoes (Becca rolls her eyes).
