August 2nd - Day 51
Today was a planned low key day with nothing to do other than to sit by Big Bear Lake, take it easy in camp, and try to get a little bit of extra rest. I think we succeeded.
A few highlights/memorable moments from the day:
Everyone was hoping to spend a fair bit of time sitting by or playing in the water. And, Becca was looking forward to getting her paddle board out. When we walked down to the lake in the morning, it was pretty clear that playing in the water wasn’t in the cards for the kids. The water level was low and the lake was warmer than usual, resulting in significant algae. This was not appealing for anyone and they ultimately joined me in sitting next to the lake instead.
Aubrey enjoys practicing her French Braiding skills, so today did Becca and Ilena’s while we sat by the lake.
The kids have played a fair number of card games on the trip but I have not as I am always driving. Since I was not driving today and had free time, I used the opportunity to play games with the older kids. I skunked Elias in cribbage and beat Aubrey in Uno, but lost to Ilena playing Old Maid (LOL).
Ilena and Obadiah have spent a fair amount of time coloring and drawing this summer. Ilena is quite the artist and OB loves to copy her work. In the photos today you’ll see a sweet comparison.
The most important thing that we did today was use our downtime to have a family naptime. Two hours in the RV with everyone quiet as it rained outside. It was wonderful. Some fell asleep and some read, but all were quiet!
