August 16 - Day 65
One of the things that we have enjoyed most about our trip is that we’ve been able to spend time with so many different friends and family that we don’t often see. So, with today being the last fully day of our trip, what better way to spend it than by spending the entire day with great friends.
A few highlights of the trip:
Following breakfast, all of the kids went to the campground’s Junior Beaver program that is offered by the State Park’s Department. They learned about the damage and trouble that trash along the beach and in the ocean causes for sea life and made necklaces out of shells. Unfortunately for Obadiah, the Junior Beaver Program does not have cool badges. Instead, they got stickers…
We spent a fair bit of time today at the beach with both families. It was extremely windy, but everyone still had a great time. Becca and Mary went on a long walk together, all of the kids played in the sand and with the driftwood, and Jaco and I sat in our chairs chatting while “monitoring” all 7of the kids.
With downtown Bandon so close, we felt compelled to go back and get ice cream again...I couldn’t resist! The big disappointment for the day was that they were out of chocolate peanut butter ice cream. Other than that, everyone certainly enjoyed the treat!
Following dinner, we took one last opportunity to have a campfire and smores. The girls requested sleepovers with these dear friends, and we were able to accommodate (the two oldest girls in a tent together and the two 6 year olds on the RV bunk) .
Becca enjoyed late night campfire conversation with Mary as I sat here and wrote this blog.
