June 19th - Day 7

With everyone still adjusting to being on the move, we decided last night to make today a rest day and not venture out on any outings, other than a few errands to restock. Our original plan was too leave Yellowstone today and drive most of the way across Wyoming. However, since we already did that and we are at a KOA in Rapid City, SD for a couple nights, it was a good place for a rest day as there is a pool, laundry facilities, etc.

Running our errands shouldn’t be considered rest. We are learning that everything with a RV requires planning. Not just the route we are going to drive or the adventures we are going to go on, but even going to the grocery store requires a fair bit of planning. It is not a simple task to just drive down the street to the local store and easily find parking. We have to plan our grocery shopping trips and other stops based on if we can park. Otherwise, we may end up walking significantly further than we would like.

I think we’re restocked and rested now, so off for more adventures tomorrow.

A few highlights of the day:

  • The kids were able to swim multiple times in the pool at the campground. The second time was cut short due to lighting, but I think everyone was still able to get most of their energy out.

  • With it being Father’s Day, everyone insisted that I don’t make them breakfast this morning since I make breakfast for the family most every morning. Instead, the KOA had an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast that they wanted to try. I don’t know if the family was just being nice, but they said my pancakes are better…

  • Being a family of 6, with some little people who are prone to making messes, we produce a lot of dirty laundry in a short period of time. Fortunately, Becca is an expert at doing the laundry and was able to get 8 loads done today (I, Troy, worked myself out of a job shortly after we were married by shrinking too many sweaters).

  • Naps & quite time! Ilena and Obadiah were able to take good naps as we were not on the move and Aubrey was able to have the quite time she needs to recharge. Elias on the other hand, found the game room and basketball hoop to keep busy.

  • We did not have any accidents while driving the RV today. No coffee sliding off the counter, no sugar containers spilling, no exploding cooking oil, etc. Granted, we only drove about 10 miles today. Hopefully this will be the start of a new trend for us.
