June 17th - Day 5

With our 3 night reservations for Yellowstone having been cancelled, today ended up being a long day of driving between two of the fill-in campsites we were able to reserve. We made the best of it! Leaving behind a beautiful river spot along the White River in the small town Dubois this morning, we drove to Casper, WY. This was our mid-drive break with a visit to the National Trails Interpretive Center (well worth our time) before we set out on another 3 hour drive, ending at Keyhole State Park in NE Wyoming. This is rustic (camp sights are basically marked spots in a field), but beautiful spot with breathtaking sunset views of a reservoir. The day of driving was full of the chaos that seems to be the norm of RV life, but incredible diverse views of God’s creation (as witnessed in the photos below).

Memorable Moments/Learning Experiences (from Becca):

  • Opening the RV’s pantry cabinet while driving to retrieve snacks for the kids, is prone to disaster. We had 2 incidents today which required MUCH CLEANUP, but the worst was the aerosol can of cooking spray hitting the floor/breaking and spraying oil uncontrollably everywhere!!!

  • The Oregon Trail is learned about in other states (not just Oregon ;), and its path crossed in what is now Casper, WY with those on both the California Trail and the Morman Trail (to Salt Lake City).

  • It took 4 adults searching the whole interpretive center to find the “beloved 20 year old flip phone” that OB carried into the Interpretive Center as “his cell phone” and then was emotional he lost (thankful for kind volunteers-LOL).

  • The RV windshield collected soo many dead bugs in our first 5 days, we had to find a car wash to clean up our view!

  • Naptime while driving in the RV is nearly impossible without a fight despite how overtired our kids are!
