July 31st - Day 49
When we decided to spend two nights in Vegas, our intention was to have more or less an entire day for us to be lazy and for the kids to play in the pool. This is same reason that we booked rooms at the Mandalay Bay as their pool complex is 13 acres and has both a lazy river and wave pool. Like many things though, nothing went as planned.
A few highlights/memorable moments from the day:
After a slow start to the morning, everyone got their swimsuits on and headed down to the pool; minus myself as I took the opportunity to take one very long and very hot shower (this has been missed on many days of this trip). I eventually made my way down to the pool, but after about 5 minutes of being there, Obadiah’s fever was back and I ended up back in the room with him. Unfortunately, the rest of the family soon followed us back to the room as thunderstorms rolled in and the hotel closed the pool. It stayed closed the remainder of the day.
Since we couldn’t hang out at the pool, we decided to take the Mandalay Bay tram and then walk part way down the strip to get lunch. We ended up at Park MGM where we enjoyed their Italian Market. Everyone enjoyed their fresh Italian lunch and Becca claims this was the BEST part of our time in Vegas.
Elias wanted us to check out the Las Vegas’ Hershey Store since we’ve been to the ones in both Hershey, PA and Time Square; and give Cassidy the experience. Now he can compare. Hershey, PA is by far the best and the biggest, but it seems to be a toss up between Las Vegas and Time Square. Cassidy also helped treat us to Hershey’s milk shakes for dessert.
In the early evening, we had to say goodbye to my mom and Cassidy as they had a flight back to Portland. After saying our goodbyes at the hotel (which was emotional for the girls), they got into a cab and headed to the airport as we turned to go find dinner. Immediately, Becca realized that she was still hanging onto one of Cassidy’s bags that needed to go home with her. So… Aubrey and I got into a different cab to head to the airport ourselves. We delivered the bag and Aubrey got to say goodbye one more time. Not all bad.
Even with my mom and Cassidy gone, our family still does not fit into a single hotel room, so we decided to have a girls sleepover and a boys sleepover. Everyone was very tired though, so it didn’t really matter where they slept as they all fell asleep rather quickly, though I didn’t sleep well due to sharing a bed with Obadiah (lol).
