July 22nd - Day 40
Other than visiting friends on this trip, each kid did have a few places that they were most looking forward to seeing. For Aubrey and Elias, it was seeing the Adventures in Odyssey studio in Colorado Springs and for Obadiah, it was to ride a train up a mountain. Today, we did both of those things!
A few highlights from the day:
I successfully coordinated getting our RV serviced and the oil changed. This took calling around last week to see who could do it, having the shop pre-order filters so there was no delay, taking an Uber to rent a car so we weren’t stuck all day without transportation, and arranging to pick up the RV after hours since we were out adventuring during the day. I thought I had everything dialed in pretty well, until I received a voicemail this morning letting me know that the car I had booked was not available and they did not have any other vehicles available that would fit our family. Thankfully I was able to find another rental company that did have a suitable vehicle at last minute notice.
As mentioned above, we visited the Adventures in Odyssey studio, where it is recorded. Adventures in Odyssey is an audio drama that is geared towards kids who are +/- Elias’ age. Both Aubrey and Elias are currently big fans and have both listened to hundreds of episodes. What’s fun is that Becca was also a big fan when she was their age and listened faithfully to Adventures in Odyssey. The only difference is that Aubrey and Elias stream via an app to listen whereas Becca set her alarm clock every Saturday morning to tune in via a local Christian radio station.
As typical for our ice cream loving son, Elias seemed most excited to check out the Whit’s End Soda Fountain that is a part of the Adventures in Odyssey radio drama. Aubrey though ordered the most unique Ice Cream Sunday on the menu as it was something she has heard about a character eating in recent episodes.
Following our stop at the Adventures in Odyssey studio, we made our way to Manitou Springs to board the COG Railway for a ride up to the top of Pike’s Peak. The COG Railway starts at about 6,500 feet in elevation and climbs to over 14,100. At that altitude, more than one family member started to feel the effects of the elevation and were happy to come done. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful ride and a great experience! The train ride did not disappoint Obadiah.
