August 8th - Day 57
Today we said goodbye to Becca’s Aunt Laura and Uncle Don and continued on our journey. We were thankful for our time with them and for their hospitality in allowing us a place to crash while we were recovering from COVID. Our original plan had been to leave their place yesterday, camp near Ventura, and then go to the Channel Islands today. Obviously, that did not happen. On the plus side, we got to spend an extra day with Don and Laura!
A few highlights from the day:
I think I finally ended my COVID symptoms and seem to be getting back to normal. We are thankful that all of our cases were relatively minor and more or less, just an inconvenience.
For Obadiah’s birthday gift, we wanted to take him to a Build-A-Bear and let him create his own “stuffie” (he already sleeps with 7 stuffies at home every night, so what’s one more?). We found a Build-A-Bear shortly after leaving Chino Hills and made a stop. He was not disappointed. And because of a birthday sale, he was able to get two!
After Build-A-Bear, we continued on our journey and ended up driving through the heart of Los Angeles on our way out to the Pacific Coast Highway. It actually wasn’t that bad and was easier than some of the other major cities we’ve driven through on our adventure (Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, etc).
We ended the day at an RV park/resort near the town of Goleta, CA which is just north of Santa Barbara. This was probably the nicest place that we’ve camped so far. The RV parking spots were paved; they had a heated pool which the kids thoroughly enjoyed; and the laundry facility was clean, everything worked as it should, and Becca didn’t loose any quarters. ;)
